They also can utilize laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging and other diagnostic interventions to determine when chiropractic treatment is appropriate or when it is not appropriate due to red flags.

Our providers work with all patients, including men and women, but also specialize in treating athletes, pregnant women, postpartum women and children. Chiropractic care is wonderful for people of all ages!

Treatment methods used by Doctors of Chiropractic include: spinal and extremity manipulation, manual and instrument assisted soft tissue manipulation, rehabilitative exercises and nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling. Spinal and extremity manipulation is a very important and a crucial part of what chiropractors do. The purpose of spinal manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that are hypomobile and/or painful. Hypomobility and/or pain can be caused by a single traumatic event or through repetitive stresses. For example: lifting a heavy object incorrectly or sitting with poor posture for an extended period of time. Injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function. Manipulation restores mobility, and helps to reduce pain and muscle tightness, allowing tissues to heal.

The lower level movement studio at Pinnacle Hill Chiropractic sets our office apart from any other office in Rochester, NY and the surrounding area. Our doctors incorporate their incredible knowledge of movement, rehabilitation and strength training into the majority of their patient's treatment plans.

Our doctors practice evidence based care and will always consider: research, clinical expertise, patient values and preferences when putting together personalized treatment plans. What may be the best treatment for one person, may not be the best for another based on goals and history.

Flexion & Distraction

Flexion and distraction is a type of hands-on spinal manipulation, which is performed by having the patient lie on a specially designed chiropractic table. It is a type of decompression therapy that helps to relieve spinal pain. Flexion and distraction is most appropriate for conditions causing low back pain and leg pain, as well as neck and arm pain. It has been proven to reduce pain associated with disc bulges/herniations, facet syndrome, spinal canal stenosis and spondylolisthesis.

Activator Methods

The Activator Method is a widely-researched and effective instrument assisted chiropractic technique, which is used to treat a variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. The Activator tool delivers a gentle, yet direct, impulse to a joint with the goal of restoring motion.

Cold Laser Therapy

Cold laser is a safe, non-toxic and non-invasive therapy that can treat a variety of neuromusculoskeletal conditions, including: minor injuries and sprains, tendonitis, joint pain, inflammation, low back pain, neck pain and many others. Cold laser therapy is cost effective for patients because it helps with pain reduction and accelerated recovery so that more intense therapy techniques can be introduced sooner in the rehabilitative process to help improve functional gains and outcomes.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is a tradition Chinese medicine therapy that utilizes a pump to create a vacuum. The cups are strategically placed over acupuncture points or muscle with the intent of moving blood, releasing tension or adhesions in the muscles to aid in the healing of injured tissue.

Kin Taping

Taping is a rehabilitative technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing processes, while providing support and stability to muscles and joints. This taping technique can be used on a variety of populations including pediatrics and geriatrics. It successfully treats orthopedic, neuromuscular and neurological conditions.

Custom Orthotics

If the foot is over-pronated this causes internal rotation of of the lower leg, which can put stress on the knees, hips, pelvis and low back. Research has proven that custom orthotics help relieve pain and improve biomechanics from the ground up. They improve posture, balance and physical performance, including during sports, stand-up work environments and outdoor activities.

What does the research say?

Patients who saw a chiropractor as their initial provider for low back pain had 90% decreased odds of both early and long-term opioid use. (BMJ Open 2019)

Posterior chain resistance training has greater effects on chronic low back pain than general exercise. (Sports Medicine 2021)

“[Chiropractic Manipulative Therapy] in conjunction with [standard medical care] offers a significant advantage for decreasing pain and improving physical functioning when compared with only standard care, for men and women between 18 and 35 years of age with acute low back pain. (Spine 2013)

The results of a clinical trial showed that chiropractic care combined with usual medical care for low back pain provides greater pain relief and a greater reduction in disability than medical care alone. The study, which featured 750 active-duty members of the military, is one of the largest comparative effectiveness trials between usual medical care and chiropractic care ever conducted. (JAMA Open Network 2018)

"Manual-thrust manipulation provides greater short-term reductions in self-reported disability and pain compared with usual medical care. 94% of the manual-thrust manipulation group achieved greater than 30% reduction in pain compared with 69% of usual medical care. (Spine 2015)
