Sleep & Your Health

Most people are running around day in and day out feeling like there are not enough hours in the day. Are you one of those people? Sleep is crucial to MANY aspects of life and not enough of it can be detrimental.

According to scientists, sleep plays a critical role in immune function, memory, learning, and mood. Obviously these things are necessary to function optimally at work and while taking care of your family, but how often are you putting things off because you are tired? Leaving the dishes to tomorrow or not vacuuming for a few days is fine, but what about when it comes to physical activity? This can be good and bad, as being exhausted and lacking motivation to complete a task are very different.

Most people say that when they are lacking motivation and still make it to the gym they are happy that they did it. However, if you are exhausted and try to push yourself to go to the gym it can sometimes be detrimental. Sleep is necessary for recovery, both from injury and the normal wears and tears of everyday life. If your body hasn't had time to recover, is it really a good idea to go to the gym in a less than optimal state?

Think long and hard about what your goal is when going to the gym and how your body is feeling leading up to it.
