When The Pain is Telling You Enough Is Enough

In our field it is very difficult to tell an athlete to stop being active as most athletes have the mentality of "push through the pain". This can be dangerous for people as they are likely going to further injure themselves or create awful compensation patterns while performing with pain.

Let's talk about pain. Pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong! Pain can be caused by a number of different structures, however in our office we focus on pain originating from the muscles, joints or nerves. Pain is VERY DIFFERENT than post exercise soreness and VERY DIFFERENT than the "burn" you feel during a good workout.

Your workouts should NEVER be painful. If you are experiencing pain during exercise there is something going on and you should be assessed by the appropriate healthcare provider. If you are experiencing pain during a workout it could be due to an acute, chronic or repetitive motion injury, poor form or overtraining.

When anyone is treated in our office we barely ever tell them to stop moving. Very often we actually treat them with movement. Motion is lotion and movement in moderation, even when injured, is important for healing. If you are dealing with an acute, chronic or repetitive motion injury give our office a call to see how we can keep you moving and feeling better!
